“Ohhh, that’s good. Right there, yes. Mmm… To think a young man like you could be so skillful… Aaagh! W-wait, not there! It hurts!”

“Stop making such weird noises! It’s just a back massage! Grow up!”

Milo pushed down on Housen’s hip, straightening his back with a series of loud cracks, and the Benibishi king alternated between cries of agony and delight.

“It’s obvious you were fitter once, Your Majesty, but you’ve really let yourself go. All that slouching on sofas is bad for your spine.”

“I—I know, but do you have to handle me so roughly? I am a king, remember. ”

“I’m afraid so. I have to be tough just to get through all that muscle. I’ll finish off with some pressure point massage, so just lie still.”

“H-hold on! You mean you’re still not done?! U-uurgh! Ow… Ow! Nooo! Guhhh!”

The gravelly yelps of the Benibishi monarch filled the rocky cell. It was a strange sight indeed, made stranger still by the fact that it was he who had requested the examination in the first place.

“First let’s see if those weedy arms of yours can help ease my aching back.”

The idea had been to enjoy a relaxing massage at Milo’s expense, but instead, the Benibishi king found himself at the doctor’s mercy. The young boy’s physical strength proved to be far beyond anything his dainty figure would suggest.

Milo, on the other hand, was as eager as always to provide medical treatment should anyone ask for it. Though this ended up being a way to get back at the king for his teasing, that had not been Milo’s intent at all. In fact, he was sweating from the effort of providing the best care he could manage. Fortunately, Benibishi anatomy differed not too significantly from that of humans, so there were no troubles on that front.

“Okay! I’ve finished the readjustment. Now just rest awhile, and you should feel much more limber than before.”

“This wasn’t quite what I expected…”

“Now, as promised…,” Milo began, stressing his words as he looked down at Housen on the bed. “You said you would answer my question if I did what you asked.”

“Hmm, did I really? My memory’s not what it used to be…,” Housen replied.

“Oh, really? Well, this pressure point does wonders for recollection.”

“Gyaaaagh! Ow, ow, ow! Okay, okay! You sure are an…intrepid fellow. It’s been a long time since anyone treated me with such incivility.”

Housen soon relented at the hands of Milo’s torture…or massage, depending on how you looked at it, and he slicked back his sweat-drenched hair. Lifting a gold-trimmed tobacco pipe, he took a few puffs to settle his nerves before asking, “So? What was it you wanted to ask me again? So much for your pressure points. If anything, the shock just made me forget.”

“It was how to defeat Someyoshi Satahabaki!” yelled Milo, angrily downing a glass of water and wiping his sweaty brow. “Mushrooms don’t work on him, like you said. If anything, they only make him stronger. What are those strange flowers he has?”

“I’m afraid I don’t know what to tell you, friend.
