âOhhh, thatâs good. Right there, yes. Mmm⦠To think a young man like you could be so skillful⦠Aaagh! W-wait, not there! It hurts!â
âStop making such weird noises! Itâs just a back massage! Grow up!â
Milo pushed down on Housenâs hip, straightening his back with a series of loud cracks, and the Benibishi king alternated between cries of agony and delight.
âItâs obvious you were fitter once, Your Majesty, but youâve really let yourself go. All that slouching on sofas is bad for your spine.â
âIâI know, but do you have to handle me so roughly? I am a king, remember. â
âIâm afraid so. I have to be tough just to get through all that muscle. Iâll finish off with some pressure point massage, so just lie still.â
âH-hold on! You mean youâre still not done?! U-uurgh! Ow⦠Ow! Nooo! Guhhh!â
The gravelly yelps of the Benibishi monarch filled the rocky cell. It was a strange sight indeed, made stranger still by the fact that it was he who had requested the examination in the first place.
âFirst letâs see if those weedy arms of yours can help ease my aching back.â
The idea had been to enjoy a relaxing massage at Miloâs expense, but instead, the Benibishi king found himself at the doctorâs mercy. The young boyâs physical strength proved to be far beyond anything his dainty figure would suggest.
Milo, on the other hand, was as eager as always to provide medical treatment should anyone ask for it. Though this ended up being a way to get back at the king for his teasing, that had not been Miloâs intent at all. In fact, he was sweating from the effort of providing the best care he could manage. Fortunately, Benibishi anatomy differed not too significantly from that of humans, so there were no troubles on that front.
âOkay! Iâve finished the readjustment. Now just rest awhile, and you should feel much more limber than before.â
âThis wasnât quite what I expectedâ¦â
âNow, as promisedâ¦,â Milo began, stressing his words as he looked down at Housen on the bed. âYou said you would answer my question if I did what you asked.â
âHmm, did I really? My memoryâs not what it used to beâ¦,â Housen replied.
âOh, really? Well, this pressure point does wonders for recollection.â
âGyaaaagh! Ow, ow, ow! Okay, okay! You sure are anâ¦intrepid fellow. Itâs been a long time since anyone treated me with such incivility.â
Housen soon relented at the hands of Miloâs tortureâ¦or massage, depending on how you looked at it, and he slicked back his sweat-drenched hair. Lifting a gold-trimmed tobacco pipe, he took a few puffs to settle his nerves before asking, âSo? What was it you wanted to ask me again? So much for your pressure points. If anything, the shock just made me forget.â
âIt was how to defeat Someyoshi Satahabaki!â yelled Milo, angrily downing a glass of water and wiping his sweaty brow. âMushrooms donât work on him, like you said. If anything, they only make him stronger. What are those strange flowers he has?â
âIâm afraid I donât know what to tell you, friend.
